Recover Data after Operating System Crash, LIVE BOOT

Today I am gonna help you to recover your data after your Windows Operating system fails to boot means doesn't startup.

The basic of this is procedure is to LIVE BOOT a Linux  OS and get access to your Windows Partition and then copy your data to any external hard drive or pen drive.

There are many Linux Distros available free of cost which you can download and use. For LIVE booting also there are many tutorials  available which you can search if  you want more on LIVE BOOTING. I am here just will concentrate on fastly getting the data back with the simple and direct steps available and will LIVE BOOT using USB.

Moving forward to the RECOVER procedure.

The tools required to LIVE BOOT the LINUX  OS.
  • Linux Operating System, the one I am gonna use  is  Ubuntu  12.04. You can use  any other version or Linux Distro like Fedora. Please try to use a light weight OS  as we just need to get access to Hard Disk nothing else. You can get the Ubuntu OS here: http://www.ubuntu.com/download/desktop
  • UNetbootin: This tool will be use to write ISO file to Pen drive and to make the pen drive  bootable. You can get the complete procedure of using the UNetbootin on its website.
Hope so you have till now wrote the Operating system to pendrive and ready to boot.

Recovering Data
Attach the pen-drive the system from which you want to  recover the data.

Start your system and during boot time try to BOOT from pendrive. To boot from pendrive you may require to change the BIOS settings to change the boot order. For detailed information regarding this you can refer here: http://pcsupport.about.com/od/tipstricks/ht/bootusbflash.htm. Different Manufacturers have different BIOS settings and versions. Please check your computer manual to get the BIOS up during startup.

After successful setting Pendrive as boot device, now the system will load the Operating system written on the pendrive. If you are using Ubuntu with UNetbootin you will see a  screen like this.
Select Default to start the Ubuntu Operating System

Ubuntu is starting
Home Screen when Boot process is complete.
Home Screen

Use file explorer to View files and then goto devices to mount different partitions and devices like the image below.

Now, you can copy any data you want to the drive you want. If  you are new to Linux or Ubuntu  then just click on the all the devices shown and look for the data in all the devices available. After sometime you will get the logic behind this. That's all in this post, if you still have any query just comment below. Thank You :)
