SET UP A HOME OR SMALL OFFICE NETWORK

SHARING YOUR INTERNET CONNECTION BETWEEN TWO PCS

Help full in the case when you are having only one internet access device such as using wireless modem or Bluetooth or having only one Wi-Fi enabled device.

This post will guide  you to connect your two PCS one running WIN XP and other running WIN 7.
First of all you should know that WIN 7 HOME BASIC does not allow to create home group, rather you can connect through other home group network. As WIN 7 does not allow you to create  a home group so your win xp should have a home group created.

Connect your cable(CAT 5) between the two PCS.

CREATING HOME GROUP ON WIN XP
  1. Goto my NETWORK PLACES and click SETUP HOME OR SMALL OFFICE NETWORK.
  2. Then in the NETWORK SETUP WIZARD in the connection method Select the Second option,

  3. Remember to keep the WORKGROUP name same when asked.
  4. In the last dialog just select the option USE MY WINDOWS XP CD , and then next and just finish the setup.

  5. CONFIGURING NETWORK ON WIN 7

Insert WIN XP CD and run the NETWORK SETUP WIZARD by selecting SET UP A HOME OR SMALL OFFICE NETWORK.
  6. In the connection method dialog do as in fig.

  7. In next dialog box select your internet connection.
  8. In the CONNECTIONS select your another computer(WIN XP PC name should appear ) you want to connect to the Network eg. I have selected desktop as this is my another pc.

  9. Give The same WORKGROUP name when asked and then finish the wizard.

  10. Some manual settings if internet doesn't work.

  11. Make your Internet connection as Home Network.
  12. Check that the connection you are using to connect to Internet is TCP/IPv6 enabled. To check it go to properties of the internet connection and in Network Tab select the TCP/IPv6  and then click ok. For networking IPv6 must be enabled.
  13. In sharing tab, Check the internet sharing option, and in the click down menu select the connection of your win xp. Click  Ok.
  14. After that reconnect your internet connection. And I hope everything will be working fine.

  15. Note: Restart your pc when asked to do so.
Remember that in the above guide you are connected to Internet directly on WIN 7  and are sharing this connection to use internet on WIN XP. You can only connect two PCs by this type.

    Platform: WIN XP, WIN 7
